Maira Kalman
Maira Kalman is an artist, an illustrator, and the author of 18 children’s books. She works frequently for the New Yorker, producing both covers and monthly columns, and has collaborated with several well-known authors, including Michael Pollan and Daniel Handler. Her illustrated version of The Elements of Style revitalized the iconic writing guide. She was awarded the AIGA Medal in 2017 for her work in “storytelling, illustration, and design while pushing the limits of all three.”
Kalman has had several solo exhibitions. In 2010, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia organized a retrospective of Kalman’s work entitled Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World), which also traveled to the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and the Jewish Museum in New York City. She is represented by the Julie Saul Gallery.
